Heist alert: watch store robbed, loses 120 million yen

We've all seen those surveillance tapes of some lunatic trying to steal some jewelry from behind the counter, but here's something on a higher magnitude. Nearly 120 million yen worth of merchandise was stolen from a high-end Tokyo, Japan watch store.Of course, that's only about 5 cents in American currency (actually, it's a little over $1,000,000). Police say the suspects are part of a gang that specialize in this sort of crime.

Watch prototype wants you to be on time

We've seen GPS watches, watches with calendars, and WiFi watches, but this is the first time I've seen all three of these used for a killer watch application. This timepiece, still in prototype status, uses these technologies to let you know when you should leave for events programmed in your calendar. It takes into account things like traffic conditions, estimated drive time, and any other en route points you may have scheduled. In addition to all this, it can connect wirelessly with a cell phone via Bluetooth.

Formula 1 watch - get your race on

Though I've never been a big fan on car racing, I find some of the merchandise cool. This Azimuth Bi-Retrograde watch is just such an example. The face is laid out like a Formula 1 race car dashboard. When you're going 59 miles per hour with 4K RPMs, you know it's time to punch out (that's 4:59 for the uninitiated). It runs mechanically and has a perforated leather strap. It's perfect for those who just aren't fit enough to be professional car drivers.

The flashlight can be illuminated with the touch of a button on the left side of the case and powered by a second battery. If you just want to comfortably view the time, or if the flashlight battery dies, the optional LED dial light is on hand.

Mainav MW-705 Bluetooth GPS Wristwatch

Out on an adventure in the unfamiliar terrains of the Appalachians? You’ll fumble through its mysteries while stumbling over Mainnav’s clumsy MG-920 Bluetooth GPS receiver.Sporting a SiRF Star III LP chip, this GPS watch ejects from you wrist and forces your attention to its navigational instructions. Though it’s hard to refrain from harping on this creature’s features, we’ll pause for a second to give you the lowdown on the pretty decent specs this GPS possesses.

Oakley Judge Stealth Black

This watch presents an image of a businessman who uniquely lives on the edge with style. The Oakley Judge Stealth Black’s features hint to be a formal, yet avant-garde watch. Some of the benefits to note on this time-piece are smooth-flowing second hand that soars to the current moment when pause is released; a sub dial for logging minutes and hours; and excellent precision of 10-jewel Swiss movement. This Judge™ watch’s has impact-forge stainless steel bracelet with the flexibility and fit of micro adjustment links; and anti-reflective (AR) coating on the face of the watch that prevents glare from the sapphire crystal. Listed at $650, this watch doesn’t justify the price.

The URWERK 210 Blackshark

Consider this time piece sold. Licking your chops is as near as you’re going to get to the URWERK 201 Blackshark. Citizen's New VIRT Bluetooth Watch

Citizen has given its VIRT W700 Bluetooth watch a face lift. The earlier version of the Bluetooth watch reminded me of a new state-of-the-art device that would replace the electric chair. The new version has a milder style, but to me it looks like a new invention for a pulse monitor, or maybe a timepiece made for the younger generation. Instead of the stark black, mechanical stiffness the old version reflected, this new version is daubed in a milder black. But, the soft colors (available in blue, pink or white) around the frame of the display break up the dark dreariness.

Diamond Encrusted Quadtec Watch

We reported about the innovative Quadtec digital LCD watch by Equitime last October. The company informed us that they offer now limited editions with real diamonds. The Quadtec watch takes a fresh approach to display time digitally. The Quadtec watch can be set to show the number of minutes to the full hour. Additionally it is the first watch to display the minutes at the location of the current quarter. The diamond option gives the watch the necessary sparkle to compete with expensive traditional Swiss watches or become a hit with Hip Hop artists. I actually have a Quadtec here. It is a bloody big time-piece. It is already a real looker and conversation piece without the diamonds. I also really like the "analog" way it tells the time. The standard version of the Quadtec watch sells for $490 through Amazon.com.

VABENE Forza Rossa

This timepiece signifies every facets of red: Fire, passion, hot, fury, love. It is said, “Red symbolizes life, vitality, strength and the physical nature of man. Rose-red is the color of universal harmony.” And in harmony it is, as this watch synchronously clock movements.Derived from the romantic and passionate shores of Italy, the Forza Rossa is a startling watch crafted by the Italian watch company VABENE. This creative watchmaker humbly offers the Forza Rossa for $145.

The New Nike Wristwatch, Sorry iPod

Nike has decided to go out on its own (apart from iPod) and create a watch with, well… time in mind. This sleek, dark mystery was created using the same wireless technology to display the dat on one’s wrist rather than on one’s DAP.Though we’re not sure if this is a finalized idea, but we’re sure that Nike won’t be breaking complete ties with iPod. The name and reputation speaks for itself.

Seiko's New SKZ213K1

Somebody’s been dipping in the Blue Monster’s porridge. Seiko’s Blue Monster a/k/a the Seiko SKZ213K1, has a duplicate mold out there on the market. Apparently, there’s a market for this limited edition. There are some differences in the two, however. The actual Monster’s blue face contrast nicely with the light green lume and the red and blue bezel makes an appealing. Its twin similarly has a blue face, but it surrounded by a dull steel bezel that doesn’t lend much personality. Yet, like the Monster, it’s a handsome watch.

iWatch In Apple's Future

Is the world going iPod MAD? No! But, Worth1000.com contestants attempt to creatively show us what Steve is conjuring up in R&D’s Apple facility. It’s going to be a close competition. These contestants are more than talented and creative. From the iPuff cigarettes to the Ipiano, these guys are giving it all they’ve got.The iWatch caught my attention looking so much ever like the Ipod Nano and with all the features. This could definitely be a reality folks! It mirrors the familiar dial and has a handy USB port along the side. If iPod isn’t already working on this one, they should!
