This Azimuth Bi-Retrograde watch is just such an example. The face is laid out like a Formula 1 race car dashboard. When you're going 59 miles per hour with 4K RPMs, you know it's time to punch out (that's 4:59 for the uninitiated). It runs mechanically and has a perforated leather strap. It's perfect for those who just aren't fit enough to be professional car drivers.

Swiss Army Night Vision

See your way through a dark room with the Swiss Army’s Night Vision watch line. The earlier version of the Bluetooth watch reminded me of a new state-of-the-art device that would replace the electric chair. The new version has a milder style, but to me it looks like a new invention for a pulse monitor, or maybe a timepiece made for the younger generation. Instead of the stark black, mechanical stiffness the old version reflected, this new version is daubed in a milder black. I guess that's why I have a soft spot for Nooka (most famous for their Zot watch). Their newer line is the Zen line, and the Zen-V is a real conversation piece. There are three "bars" on the watch. The first two have six ticks each, and they represent the hour (e.g. all six ticks marked on the left-most bar and two ticks on the middle bar is 8:00). The third bar is more of a gauge/thermometer type of readout, with markings next to it from 0 to 60, and that tells you the minutes portion of the time. Luckily, to make things a little simpler, the seconds are shown in a simple digital display on the right side of the watch.

The WristClinic

Irish Telcomed Advanced Industries Ltd. offers the WristClinic, which is a all-in-one wireless remote medical monitoring device for telemedicine and homecare applications.

The medicine watch measures and wirelessly transmits medical parameters like Blood pressure, One lead ECG, Heart rate, Heart rhythm regularity, Respiratory rate, Oxygen saturation (SpO2) and Body temperature. With vibration and light flashing you get notified that a call comes in.

A small organic EL display is used to display name of the caller if the phone has an entry for it. Another very useful feature of the Bluetooth watch is that it notifies you if you leave your phone behind.

The design of the world's first commercially available Bluetooth watch is a bit too industrial for my taste. The display is way too small and it is too thick with close to 15mm.

Midas Remote Control Wrist Watch

The Midas Remote Control Watch does not look like it can control any TV out there, but it does. The Midas watch is powered by the Universal Electronics universal remote control technology and database. The remote can be programmed, using a 4 or 5 digits code, in approximately 30 seconds. The pre-programmed database of codes covers every make/model of TV and cable receiver imaginable. The featured controls are for Volume (+/-), Channel (+/-), Mute, and Power. The range is 15ft and 20 degree angle. The watch movement is from Seiko.

Cool New Equalizer High Frequency 2 Japanese Wristwatch

The first High Frequency watch appeared last year in September. The new High Frequency 2 features a 3D style equalizer display. The animated display uses cool matrix style green lights. The Equalizer High Frequency 2 features a very theatrical way to show the time. The display pushes up the top row of lights and the light spots float back down in a real equalizer effect, finally all the lights fall down off the face of the watch to leave only two lights to indicate the time for 5 seconds, then the two lights also trail off.

New Casio Baby-G Casket Radio Controlled Wristwatch

Casio announces a new radio controlled and solar wristwatch in its Baby-G Casket line.

It is pretty impressive how small radio controlled and solar powered wristwatches can get. Story and photo originated at WastedBrain.com. Lots of other sites like Engadget and Gizmodo picked up the story. Seiko actually already showed a bluetooth enabled Wrist Watch in 2001 and again in 2003. I cannot find a source other than WastedBrain for the new Seiko bluetooth Watch Photo. See below a photo from the 2001 version. IXI a maker of wireless device infrastructures has a press-release in 2003 describing a bluetooth enabled Seiko Instruments Inc. (SII) Wrist Watch. So far I would say the Seiko Bluetooth is comparable with the Samsung Wrist Phone story. The sensor reads water depth up to 100? with a 90? sonar beam to find the sport where fish hide. All controls are operated from the one-touch wrist unit, including the fish proximity alarm, sensitivity level, depth range, and fish identifier. The remote sensor provides 400 hours of continuous usage, and automatically shuts off after it is removed from water to conserve battery life.

Bunnysutra Touch Swatch

Swatch introduces funny Wrist Watch with kamasutra bunnies. Quote: The TV unit itself measures 48x48x18mm and weighs 50g (my measurements), making it the smallest TV I have ever seen. The TV display itself measures 1.5" diagonal. Set button displays the current channel in the time display. With the arrow buttons I now can change the channels. The first good reception I got on channel 26. I was amazed how "watch-able" TV is on this post stamp size display. It really works well. The display is sharp. Text displayed is readable. The colors are vivid. The only challenge I have is getting good reception. The designs of some of them are just crazy and push the definition of how to show time. The one in the photo is called "Pimp".The time is displayed in 3 colors. The left side represents the hours and can be read by looking at the digits to the left of them. The minutes are displayed in 12 rows of 5, in green, yellow, and red, with each row representing 5 minutes, each light representing a minute. To count the minutes after 15 minutes it is easiest to start by looking at the competed red row(s) and then start counting from there. Each completed red row is a 15, 30, 45, 60 minute indicator. Does not get more complicated to read time, but it definitly looks cool and for $129.00 this is an affordable head-turner. Check out the TokyoFlash Store for more out-there wrist watches. TokyoFlash ships to the US and Europe.

Porsche Design Indicator - Future Wrist Watch Luxury

Porsche Design announced a futuristic chronograph with combined mechanical-digital chronometer display - The Porsche Design Indicator. The idea to develop the Porsche Design super-chronograph was born as early as the end of 2000 by Eterna?s CEO Ernst F. Seyr. The design of the watch is in line with the spectacular new Porsche Carrera GT. The mechanical high-end watch is able to display as it shows stopped time intervals up to nine hours and 59 minutes in large digits. Besides the stop function it also features a power reserve indicator. It uses a slightly curved 42 mm sapphire crystal for dramatic dial display. The price is said to be 65,000Euros. We found a japanese store (raw translation) that features the watch with some specification. The Man Power MP3 Watch has a flash drive with 128MB and weighs 50g. MP3 file upload is via USB of course. Basically it is like the Laks USB Memory Watch with built-in MP3 Player Function - We like it!
